How to get the urgent help you need while protecting the most vulnerable people in the Southern Highlands
When you are struck down by a sudden, heavy flu, a chesty cough, or a positive COVID-19 test, your first instinct is naturally to seek help. You are tired, your brain is foggy, and you just want relief. At Moss Vale Community Pharmacy, being there for you in these moments is exactly what we are here to do.
However, a pharmacy is a unique environment. On any given day, the person standing next to you at the counter might be a grandparent picking up their heart medication, an expectant mother, or a patient undergoing chemotherapy. Because respiratory viruses like Influenza, RSV, and COVID-19 are highly contagious, we rely on a shared sense of community care to keep our most vulnerable locals safe.
We Are Always Here to Help (But We Need Your Help, Too)
Lately, we have had several customers walk up to the counter, unmasked, to let us know they have just tested positive for COVID-19 or the flu. We completely understand that when you are stressed and unwell, contagion protocols are often the last thing on your mind.
But respiratory viruses spread rapidly through tiny invisible droplets when we speak, cough, or simply breathe. What might cause a few days of a sore throat for a healthy adult can be a life-threatening emergency for a newborn baby or an elderly neighbour.
Why Masks Make a Massive Difference
Wearing a well-fitted mask (like an N95 or surgical mask) when you have respiratory symptoms traps the virus at the source. It acts as a physical barrier, catching the infectious droplets before they can travel across the counter to our staff or settle into the air breathed by other patients. It is one of the simplest, most effective acts of kindness you can perform for your community.
Safe Ways to Get Your Medicine When You Are Sick
You do not have to delay getting your symptom relief, antivirals, or prescription medicines. We have set up several safe, stress-free ways for you to get what you need without putting the community at risk:
1. Wear a Mask Before Entering
If you must come inside and you have a cough, runny nose, or fever, please put a mask on before you walk through the automatic doors. If you don’t have one, please wait outside and call us—we will gladly bring a mask out to you!
2. Call Ahead from the Car
If you have tested positive for COVID-19 or the flu, please do not come inside. Park your car out the front and call us on 02 4868 1293. We can prepare your medicines and bring them directly to your car window.
3. Send a “Healthy Helper”
Ask a healthy friend, family member, or neighbour to pop into the pharmacy to collect your medicines or symptom relief on your behalf while you rest at home.
4. Use Our Local Delivery Service
If you are home alone and too unwell to drive, let us know. We offer a reliable home delivery service for our local Moss Vale patients to ensure you get your essential medicines without leaving your bed.
Already Tested Positive?
If you have a confirmed case of COVID-19, Influenza, or RSV, it is highly recommended that you stay home until your acute symptoms have cleared and you have not had a fever for at least 24 hours. E-Scripts make it incredibly easy to forward your prescriptions to us via SMS so we can organise delivery or a car-park drop-off.
Keeping Our Pharmacy Team Healthy
Our pharmacists and dispensary technicians work in close proximity every day. If one of our team members catches a serious virus, it can quickly spread through the staff, putting our ability to safely dispense medications for the entire Moss Vale community under immense pressure. By masking up or calling ahead, you are not just protecting other patients—you are helping ensure the pharmacy remains fully staffed and open for everyone.
