Electronic prescriptions (e-Scripts) have transformed the way Australians access their medicines. Acting as a secure digital alternative to traditional paper prescriptions, e-Scripts give you total control over your health, streamlining your journey from the doctor’s clinic straight to the pharmacy counter.
Whether you are having an in-person consultation or a telehealth appointment, you can now have your prescription sent instantly to your smartphone or email. At Moss Vale Community Pharmacy, we seamlessly process e-Scripts to ensure you get the medication you need, exactly when you need it—without the worry of ever losing a paper script again.
How Do Electronic Prescriptions Work?
All medicines can now be prescribed electronically in Australia. The process is designed to be simple, secure, and highly convenient:
1. The Doctor’s Visit
During your consultation (in-person or via telehealth), simply let your GP know you would prefer an electronic prescription instead of paper.
2. Receiving Your Token
Your doctor will send a secure message directly to your phone via SMS or to your email address. This message contains a link with a QR code (known as a “token”).
3. Getting Your Medicine
Present the QR code on your phone to our pharmacy team, or forward the message to us for home delivery. We scan the code to securely download the prescription details.
4. Managing Repeats
If your prescription has repeats, you don’t get a piece of paper back. Instead, a brand new SMS or email token will be sent to your phone as soon as we dispense your medicine.
Total Freedom of Choice
You can still receive a traditional paper prescription if you prefer! The choice is entirely yours. However, you cannot have both a paper and an electronic prescription for the exact same medicine at the same time.
Two Convenient Ways to Get Your Medicine
Once you have your e-Script token on your phone, Moss Vale Community Pharmacy offers two easy ways to have your medicine dispensed:
1. In-Store Collection
Simply walk in and show the SMS or email on your phone to our friendly counter staff. We will scan the QR code straight from your screen and prepare your medication on the spot.
2. Free Home Delivery
Forward your e-Script SMS or email directly to our pharmacy team. We can scan it remotely, prepare your medicines, and arrange for our free home delivery service throughout the Southern Highlands.
What Happens if I Lose or Delete My e-Script?
One of the greatest benefits of electronic prescriptions is that they can never truly be lost. Unlike a paper script that might end up in the wash or lost in the car, your digital prescription is stored securely on the national prescription exchange.
Accidentally deleted your SMS or email? Don’t panic!
- For original prescriptions: Simply contact the doctor or clinic that prescribed it, and they can instantly resend the token to your phone.
- For repeats: Contact our pharmacy (if we dispensed the previous supply), and we can easily reissue your repeat token.
Take Control: Active Script List (MySL) & Pharmacy Apps
If you take multiple medications, managing several different SMS tokens can get confusing. We highly recommend consolidating them:
My Active Script List (MySL)
We can help you register for MySL. This secure national registry stores all your active e-Scripts in one place. Once registered, you won’t even need to show us your phone—we can simply look up your available scripts securely on our system when you visit.
